The Carob Tree

The center of origin for the Carob
is still a matter of contention.
Both De Candolle (1883) and Vavilov (1951) placed it in the Eastern Mediterranean region of Turkey and Syria. Schweinfurth (1894) regarded the carob as a native to the highlands of Southern Arabia in Yemen.
Zohary (1973) also believed that it originated from the Arabian peninsula.
